Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

LabKey is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our Seattle, WA team.

 LabKey provides data management solutions to help research, and other organizations pair the flexibility of a custom solution with enterprise-level scalability to support scientific workflows. We help research organizations and scientists tackle some of the world’s most challenging problems by creating and delivering outstanding and scalable software solutions that support biomedical research including vaccine and therapeutic development, disease pathogenesis, and public health research.

In the Cloud Infrastructure Engineer role, you will transfigure complex data management needs and operating environment challenges by implementing secure and sustainable solutions. You will work directly with customers to provide reliable technical guidance and help develop scalable infrastructure and automation. In addition to driving infrastructure capabilities, you will troubleshoot issues and proactively implement best practice standards and procedures.

In this role you will:

  • Work autonomously with limited supervision
  • Collaborate with the services and the engineering teams
  • Plan, communicate, and execute scheduled maintenance
  • Design and build the infrastructure to run LabKey Server-based applications on AWS
  • Automate, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure components to host client applications
  • Maintain applications running on the AWS cloud and within customer data centers
  • Conduct regular reviews and monitor configurations to optimize application performance and reliability, ensuring data integrity and security
  • Participate in on-call production support
  • Integrate Agile and DevOps methodologies in team collaboration
  • Draft standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and documentation to support operations and compliance requirements
  • Work effectively with a diverse client population.
  • Manage PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server databases
  • Write cloud automation using internal tools.
  • Provide Tier 2 and consultative guidance as needed
  • Monitor for compliance issues (e.g., FISMA, HIPAA, and PCI)
  • Adapt to changing work requirements
  • Facilitate remote training sessions and host customer meetings

Required Education, Experience, and Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of experience (In lieu of degree, a minimum of six years of experience):
    • In a SysAdmin or Systems Engineering role
    • Across a range of technologically complex environments (Tier 2)
    • UNIX/Linux operating systems administration
    • Deploying and maintaining complex custom and multi-tier application systems
  • Database management experience(e.g.,PostgreSQL)
  • Able to write automation (Bash, Python, Ruby, or similar)
  • Proficient in configuration management/deployment tools (e.g., Ansible, Chef, or Puppet)
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
  • Experience writing cloud automation (e.g., Terraform, AWS CloudFormation)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Agile and DevOps methodologies
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Technical and business writing skills
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills internally and externally
  • Working knowledge of Java, PowerShell, JavaScript, and other web technologies
  • Experience with log management and monitoring technologies (e.g., ELK Stack, Splunk, OpsGenie, OpsView, Chef InSpec)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of compliance or regulated environments (FISMA, HIPAA, PCI)
  • Working knowledge of IT security standards and implementation of IT security best practices
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline tools (e.g., Bamboo, Jenkins, TFS, TeamCity, Travis CI)
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat
  • Ability to communicate effectively with email, messaging platforms, and other tools
  • Proficient with Google Suite and MS Office Suite and open-source equivalent
